Okay - but first you need to make a scan that will pass here!
From the preview I can see several problems already that you need to look at: 1. See all that diamond-shaped patterning on the back cover of the preview? That's caused by excessive patterning (moire) on the cover from the scan (it gets turned into pretty patterns when you shrink the cover like in this preview image). You need to rescan with the DeScreen option in your scanner software turned ON. 2. If I look at the corners of the cover (and along the bottom) I can see areas where the cover doesn't quite fit the template properly (white lines and corners) - You need to make sure it fits plus clone out the corners so they are right angles in the finished item. First task is to get the scan quality correct! Try uploading a 600DPI raw scan here so we can take look at that first so you don't waste any time templating something that is not going to pass ... |

Spider-Man RAW dvd coverThanks for the info on the specs/process.
I've rescanned the cover with the descreen feature selected at 600dpi. I didn't think my scanner (Canon MP640) had the feature, but after going through the different types of presets I finally found it under the "Magazine" preset. I photoshopped the original cover I uploaded to get rid of some of the blemishes and make it look a bit better - but I'll make sure I'm starting in the right place before I do that again. This RAW one will need some TLC for sure. I tried to flatten the spine as much as possible and put a ream of paper on it while scanning, but there is still some reflections - any tips on getting those out before the scan? As far as the rounded corners go, do you not advocate for the use of .PNG files that retain transparency info? I guess people could always round the corner themselves if they really wanted if not. Please let me know what I should do next. Download the high-resolution files here: |

Yes - sometimes Descreen is called magazine/photo - glad you found it!
We require JPG as the filetype for all covers, so the corners will appear white if they are rounded - as you say if someone wants to round them then they can do it themselves but I doubt anyone does this! The scan looks okay now, the spine will be fine (in terms of reflections). But now that I can see it properly you are right, it will need a lot of TLC to bring it back to looking 'original'. Give it a go and we'll see what it looks like. It still needs to having some corrections (spine's off center & the white corners)... and the preview's not the same with downloaded cover... (it's a bit better, though!)
