Mrs. Warren's Profession

Written in 1893 but not performed until 1902 because of government censorship, Mrs. Warren's Profession scandalized Victorian England.

What is the profession that has enabled Mrs. Warren to give her daughter all the benefits of "good society?" Vivie Warren discovers her mother's secrets and embraces her own power as a "modern" woman.

Adam Bede

Rich and languorous, this adaptation of George Eliot's classic tale perfectly evokes rural England in the 19th century. But beneath the tranquil surface of this pastoral idyll run deep passions and the bitter gall of betrayal.

Adam Bede is an honest, hard-working carpenter with his heart set on marrying his sweetheart, the pretty dairymaid Hetty Sorrel. But Hetty is vain and materialistic an wants nothing to do with her boring life on the farm. When Arthur Donnithorne, the heir to a local estate, begins to notice Hetty, it is not long before she allows herself to be seduced by him. When Adam finds out, he shames Donnithorne into leaving the village, but it is too late. Hetty is already pregnant from her ill-fated dalliance. Defying Adam' concerns, Hetty sets off alone in pursuit of her former lover. Eventually, destitute and exhausted, she gives birth to a premature baby and then, overcome by despair, abandons it. Can there be salvation for poor Hetty?

Age Of Kings, An

Before Masterpiece Theatre, American Playhouse or Hollywood Television Theatre, there was An Age Of Kings, a 15-part mini-series based on William Shakespeare's history plays. An Age Of Kings chronicles the turmoil, power, mystery and frailty of Britain's monarchs from Richard II (1377-1399) to Richard III (1483-1485). Not seen in North America since its original television broadcast in the 1960s, this remarkable BBC production is finally available on DVD.

Allo 'Allo!: The Complete Series Four

Poor Rene. He was last seen in a prisoner of war camp, trapped with his wife and both mistresses, not to mention the two idiotic British airmen and Michelle, the hardest taskmaster of the Resistance. What's worse, Cafe Rene and its gin supply are in the unreliable hands of his mother-in-law. More hare-brained schemes, more cross-dressers, more sausages, more fractured accents, more double entendres--they're all part of the rich texture of this hugely popular sitcom from the BBC!

Allo 'Allo!: The Complete Series Nine

Rene has great expectations! The end of the war is in sight and he is eagerly anticipating a quick return to normalcy. Unfortunately, this is Nouvion, and normalcy will have to wait while Rene is blown to smithereens, shot in the rear end while disguised as an elk, and kidnapped by Louise to serve as love slave to the Communist Resistance. Meanwhile, Herr Flick undergoes plastic surgery to avoid capture by the Allies, General von Klinkerhoffen hatches another fool-proof plan to assassinate Hitler, and no one can remember where they have hidden the painting of the Fallen Madonna with the big boobies. As normalcy recedes further and further into the distance, Michelle plots an escape via the annual fishmonger's parade, and Lieutenant Gruber desperately tries to fix his little tank. Can the end of the war come soon enough to save these desperate fools?
