[Edit] - actually, thinking about this more, maybe the reason I do it this way is that I sometimes use the same method in a layered file and you only want to rotate the one layer rather than the entire canvas. So I guess it's too difficult for me to remember two different ways of doing this!

Yeah, I guess I was just referring to working with a raw scan image with no layers (since I usually straighten the cover just after I change it to 300 dpi).
