High jinks??? Really?
Who says that? and even if they do.. who spells it like that? Really? Is there anyway to get these covers without the stupid wording on the back? |
yes there is a way to have these without the stupid wording on the back, its called "make the cover yourself!! I very rarely make up the synopsis myself, as i don't like to make mistakes with wrong characters or events that have happened in the season, so i try to get them from Amazon, Play.com, Etc.
i put alot of time and effort into my covers and have no problem with constructive criticism, but what you have put is just plan rude. if you dont like anything with my covers, either download someone else's covers, or again, make it yourself. |
Here here stu.
Megablaps, I use the word high jinks and yes, I spell it correctly as well. If you don't like the synopsis make your own covers, artwork is available. Easy to complain if all you do is post scans, try making one from scratch (especially on a show you don't watch) and see if you don't cut/paste a few things. Where you been stu, haven't seen you post or send a newsletter in ages. |
Quote:
"High jinks" implies there is a lower form of "jinx"... i.e. "Low jinx" Do you use that too? It's ... "hijinx" How do I post scans? Totally untrue! ...... I created everything from scratch, except for the main character pics of course. I recreate everything to look exactly like a factory release. I have posted ONE cover...., I made a variant for an Australian release, maybe I should be flattered then... Thanks for thinking it was an original scan.. ...Nice. What have you posted? ... What have you done? Oh Yeah, Nothing. Stubuster.., Maybe my wording didn't come across right in my post (oh.. the irony... :p), The artwork is fantastic and very uniform, ... but the wording and it's style really lets it down. It's really hard to see white writing on a white background even if it is stroked ad shadowed. The source(s) you obtained the synopsis is not the best either. Just sayin.. What's wrong with that? |
Your right, I haven't posted any work, mainly because I am still practicing and learning how to make covers up to the quality of many others here, but I also don't complain about the work others post, which is how your post came off. If that wasn't your intention, then I apologize for ragging on you.
You can take the "scan" comment as a compliment, since the front of your cover looked just like the front of the retail season 7 cover. As for word choice: The “jinks” in “high jinks,” meaning “playful, rowdy activity” or “disruptive pranks or unruly behavior” comes from a slightly different Scots dialect sense of “jink” as a noun meaning “game” or “prank.” Apparently “high jinks” in the 16th century was a drinking game (at the time also known as “high pranks”) in which the loser in a throw of dice had to perform a silly task (or drink a certain quantity of alcohol). By the mid-19th century, “high jinks” in standard English had come to mean “lively merrymaking” and “boisterous pranks” in general. After tracing that convoluted evolutionary path of “jinks,” it’s a relief to report that “jinx,” meaning “curse or spell,” is a completely unrelated word with no connection to “jink.” As a matter of fact, “jinx,” which first appeared in American English in 1911, is actually a misspelling of the much older word “jynx,” which dates back to the 1600s (and is rooted in the Greek “iynx”). This older form “jynx” was another name for a kind of European woodpecker also known as a “wryneck” for its habit of twisting its head around when disturbed. So hijinx would just be a lazy spelling of hijinks (that bothersome k and s taking too much time to text I guess) and hijinks is just a abbreviated form of high jinks (again I blame Ashton Kutcher and Twitter). When using cut and pasted your going to have to live with the occasional common vernacular, otherwise stu won't post, unless you are willing to send him alternative synopsis' as he's asked for in his newsletters. If I came off snippy, I apologize. People who complain about others hard work (especially people's work that far surpasses my ability) pisses me off and I tend to be vocal about it. |
Point taken,
I apologise, the more I read my original post, the more I sound like a douche. I couldn't quite read the synopsis on the preview picture. And was just disappointed when I downloaded it, to find the text had let down the cover,.. in my eyes anyway. It is otherwise a very slick looking set, and nicely detailed, however the text is totally at odds with the design. Sorry to both Stubuster and yourself (CEMorgan), if i came off like a tool. |
No worries, I'm sure you know how it goes, like I said, been working at learning how to make the cases and stu's been a cornucopiaof info so just get defensive over my pixelated sensei.
