Greetings,

I just joined recently-- I was looking for some artwork for a DVD I made, and found a .JPG of the logo I was looking for in this forum, using Google's image search... wasn't exactly what I was looking for, but I it's something I can work with.

I have some of my own artwork I've done (for personal gratification, not commercial profit), but I don't know if it's acceptable here. I see the rule about not uploading other people's work, which I fully understand and support... but when one's DVD artwork is derived from some other source, where does the line end? Example:

What I was looking in my Google Search was a logo for the TV series Red Dwarf, and found this thread posted by MrHenryDoG:

Red Dwarf

But I also found on the Amazon.com website a preview of what the "Red Dwarf: Back To Earth" DVD cover is going to look like here:

Amazon.com: Red Dwarf: Back to Earth: Craig Charles, Danny John-Jules, Chris Barrie, Sophie Winkleman

Using Paint Shop Pro I removed the background of the Amazon image to get this:

Imageshack - reddwarflogoe - Uploaded by crisalys

I plan on using this logo for my Back To Earth DVD Cover and Label, (using some wallpaper backgrounds of supernova images I found on deviantart), but considering that none of the source material belongs to me, I really don't want to violate anyone's copyrights.

I saw the DVD Cover made by Dluppers (http://www.customaniacs.org/forum/tv...ack-earth.html), but I already had an idea of what I wanted for myself, so I'm going to stick with my original idea (although that's also great work too, Dluppers).

I just want to know if when I'm done, would uploading my finished cover/label be violating the rules here (seeing as none of my source material belongs to me).

Welcome to Customaniacs sparehead3.

It's not the sourcematerial that has to be your own work, but the actual cover that's made with it.

We all make use of the artwork that's available to us, like posters, hires stills, title treatments, logo's etc etc, otherwise it would be pretty pointless to have such a huge resource section on site ;-)
